By now, I suspect, most readers will have noticed our new news ticker, which appears just below "Today's Headlines and Commentary" at the top of our sidebar. The ticker itself requires no explanation, but our planned use of it does warrant a brief mention. In brief, we have been trying to find a way to make our news feature a little more continuous---less of a once-a-day summary. Ritika suggested that we create the ticker so that we have the ability, even after we publish the day's summary, to continue posting news updates.

To put the matter simply, "Today's Headlines and Commentary" will be essentially unchanged, but in preparing it, we will also add many of the same items to the ticker---so that readers have access to the information earlier in the day. And we will continue adding news items onto the ticker in the hours after we post the summary each business day, so that readers don't have to wait until the next day to learn about new news stories and commentary that crops up after we've posted the summary.
