Center for Democracy and Technology Challenges Section 230 Executive Order
On June 2, the Center for Democracy & Technology filed a lawsuit alleging that President Trump’s “Executive Order on Preventing Online Censorship” violates the First Amendment.
The May 28 executive order targeted Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, the federal law that protects tech companies from being held liable for third-party content shared on their sites. In their complaint, the D.C.-based nonprofit claims the order “seeks to curtail and chill the constitutionally protected speech of all online platforms and individuals.”
