Brookings Senior Fellow Bruce Riedel, director of the Brookings Intelligence Project and a former CIA official, hosted Philip Mudd, a former CIA and FBI official, for a public talk this Monday entitled "Organizing and Managing Intelligence Analysis to Fight Terrorism." Mudd's illustrious career speaks for itself: He joined the CIA in 1985, with stints at the National Intelligence Council and the White House National Security Council. He became Deputy Director of the CIA's Counterterrorism Center, later served as the Deputy Director of the FBI's National Security Branch, and then became the FBI's Senior Intelligence Adviser.
The wide-ranging discussion at Brookings focused on themes from Mudd's recently-released book Takedown: Inside the Hunt for Al Qaeda, the intelligence community in wake of the Boston bombings, and domestic and foreign terrorist plots since 9/11, among other subjects.
