I thought readers might be interested in knowing about a workshop that will take place later this week at Oxford, under the joint sponsorship of Oxford's Institute for Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict and the International Committee of the Red Cross.  The basic idea of the event is very similar to the workshop series that Geoff Corn and I have been organizing, in cooperation with the ICRC, for many years here in the United States:  that is, to bring together a small group of academics and military lawyers for sophisticated but casual discussions across a range of cutting-edge issues.  Of course, this time the group will be split not just along the academic/military divide, but also along the North American/UK divide.  It should be loads of fun, and hopefully a useful contribution to transatlantic understanding.  Some additional details about the workshop are here: "Symmetries: International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law."
