Rep. Adam Schiff said that the House Intelligence Committee has reached a deal to hear testimony from the anonymous intelligence community whistleblower, whose complaint set off a firestorm leading to the impeachment inquiry into President Trump, reports the Washington Post. The whistleblower’s attorneys, meanwhile, have said that no date or time has been set for the testimony.
President Trump warned on Twitter that Democrat-led impeachment proceedings against him could spark civil war, says the Associated Press. Trump also appeared to ponder on Twitter whether Schiff should be arrested for treason for his recent statements about the president’s July 25 call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to CNBC.
Tom Bossert, Trump's former homeland security adviser, said that the president was repeatedly warned that there was no basis for the conspiracy theory that Ukraine interfered with the 2016 presidential election on behalf of the Democrats, reports the New York Times. Bossert claims that aids gave Trump these warnings long before Trump brought up the issue with Zelensky during the now-infamous phone call on July 25.
Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman denied in an interview with “60 Minutes” that he had any involvement in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, despite a CIA assessment that found he authorized the slaying, says the Post. In what seemed to be an attempt to appease Western critics, the crown prince, however, stated that he takes “full responsibility” for the crime because it was committed by members of the Saudi government.
