President Donald Trump ordered White House Chief of Staff John Kelly to grant Jared Kushner, the president’s son in law, a top secret security clearance over the objections of Kelly, the intelligence community and the White House counsel, the New York Times reports.

President Donald Trump ordered White House Chief of Staff John Kelly to grant Jared Kushner, the president’s son in law, a top secret security clearance over the objections of Kelly, the intelligence community and the White House counsel, the New York Times reports.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings sent a letter to the White House urging compliance with document requests seeking information related to security clearance procedures, reports the Washington Post.

The family of Otto Warmbier, the University of Virginia student who died in 2017 after being returned to the United States in a coma after prolonged detention in North Korea, issued a statement rebuking the president, saying Kim Jong Un was responsible for Warmbier’s death, reports the Post. The president responded in an afternoon tweet, alleging he had been “misinterpreted.”

Pakistan released an Indian Air Force pilot who was shot down over Kashmir earlier this week, a sign of de-escalation in the contested territory along the India-Pakistan border, according to the Post.

The State Department is offering a reward of $1 million for information related to Hamza bin Laden, the son of 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden, saying the younger bin Laden has become a leader within al-Qaeda, reports the Post.
